Lately, Russia and Ukraine, two of Europe’s most prominent countries, have been involved in a war that has shaken the world and turned its attention just as it has been turning the pages on the COVID-19 pandemic. Although Russia and Ukraine have been at odds with each other for several years, the war has taken a new level of seriousness in 2022. This is due to the fact that on February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin decided to invade Ukraine in order to take the territory of Crimea which they had been conflicted over for many years. US President Joe Biden has called Putin’s actions “a premeditated war that will bring a catastrophic loss of life and human suffering.” while Putin has deflected any blame, even saying that Ukraine would hold any responsibility for the ensuing violence and that anyone who tried to stop him would get hurt True to Biden’s words, the damage Putin has caused to Ukraine is immense, as many soldiers in Russia and Ukraine have lost their lives and buildings have been destroyed due to his cruelty and tyranny.
In order to weaken Ukraine’s resolve, Putin tried to attack Kiev, the capital of Ukraine and where Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy resided in order to weaken the country’s resolve because they believed if the leader fell, so would the country. However, the Ukrainian leader showed immense courage by refusing to evacuate Kiev when it was being bombed and everyone had left. This is shown by his words “The fight is here; I need ammunition, not a ride.” Zelenskyy has shown immense courage while waiting for assistance from Ukraine’s global allies by remaining in the capital because it is the only place where he can carry out the country’s unified assault against their enemy in Vladimir Putin. Other people have been inspired by Zelenskyy’s actions, even Ukrainians with no prior experience who have agreed to join the army as well as President Biden. With the power of determination and courage, Zelenskyy and Ukraine will truly win the fight against Russia, who may be bigger and more powerful, but will end up losing due to tyranny, hatred, and bullying a country weaker than itself.
Learn and Burn
When I finished my workout and started meditiating, I realized that I could be a part of healing by sending out wishes to everyone fighting against Russia and its allies.
Note To Self
I think everybody should partake in praying for countries that are currently dealing with game changing world events such as war and natural disasters.
Dr. Grimaldi’s Takeaway
I am thrilled that so many of my kids are involved in current events and that we try to see the good, even in times of struggle. We have worked as a group to turn our struggles into our story to empower others so reading these current events that we have investigated allows us to have likeminded discussion so we can work together to find the joy even in painful moments.
