🏡 Whispers from the Past: Tiny Town and the Little People of Merrick, NY 🏡

Let me take you on a nostalgic ride through time, along winding roads, and into the heart of Merrick, NY. As we travel these memory lanes, we will discover a unique place unlike any other – “Tiny Town.”

Tiny Town, a delightful hidden gem in Merrick, is more than just a place. It’s a cherished tale woven in the annals of Merrick’s history. It’s a testament to small wonders and, more importantly, the little people who made it their home – at the intersection of Soma and Babylon.

Founding of Tiny Town

In the 1920s, Merrick saw the inception of Tiny Town when six enchanting houses were crafted by the mastermind Edwin Wilson Jr. His vision birthed an idyllic hamlet specially designed for little people.

The whimsical neighborhood he built was unlike anything anyone had ever seen, drawing curiosity and wonder from onlookers near and far. Word had it, any adult who entered these beguiling mini dwellings had to stoop to prevent their heads from hitting the ceiling.

But for the little people of Merrick, it was a haven that fit just right.

A Lifestyle Tailored

Tiny Town was more than just home to its residents. Each day unfolded stories of love, friendship, and camaraderie capturing the essence of community life. It offered them a life free from the trivialities of an outside world that struggled to accommodate their differences. Within Tiny Town, they thrived, living full lives in a world made to their measure.

Market visits, friendly community gatherings, and evening strolls around their quaint hamlet were just everyday life. The residents’ happiness painted pictures of hope and resilience that embedded themselves in the heart of Merrick’s broader community.

The Legacy Lives On

Despite its eventual decline in the 1960s, Tiny Town’s spirit prevails today. Collectibles from the local history museum bear witness to the story of this delightful dwelling and the little people who enriched its existence.

Although the houses have now been replaced by modern residences, the tale of Tiny Town lives on in our memories. The charm of their small world made a colossal impact on the hearts of Merrick’s townsfolk.

A stroll down modern-day Soma and Babylon will never be just a mundane activity for a Merrick local. It stirs a sense of belonging, a nostalgic glance back at a time when life was simple and kind, reminding us that diversity should be celebrated. It’s a salute to the ‘little’ heroes of Tiny Town – and the big love they left behind.

The story of Tiny Town keeps the enchantment alive. It’s an inseparable part of Merrick’s history, a tale of embracing differences, a celebration of diversity, and above all, a powerful reminder that in love and community, size indeed does not matter.

Tiny Town and its little people may have been small in stature, but they contributed enormously to the heart story of Merrick, NY. Their legacy continues to whisper through our town, their tales aficionados of a time that celebrated joy in the little things, in every sense of the word.

We discussed how lovely this must have been to all live together as one happy family.

A lot times we discuss how it would be great if all of us like minded friends lived together inclusively because we all understand each other and accept each others differences. It is a nice environment to be in when everyone can feel safe and be their best selves as we grow and learn together!

Come join our next excursion of learning, loving and laughing.

All Our Best..
