What’s up. Yo, Jam Master Jack in the hizzle! Ever since 2021, I have been transcribing songs for Genius by horrorcore and underground rap artists. Through this, I have entered a new musical era in my life and have made many friends on Genius and they have been kind enough to help me edit any songs for mistakes. However, they sometimes don’t respond fast enough, and whenever they do, the song lyrics don’t sound right and we just have to leave the lyrics alone.

However, I discovered a cool Chrome extension this week, YouTube to Text, which is helpful for editing because it can determine the accurate lyrics of songs via YouTube audio, especially those without closed captions.

One of the first songs I have used on YouTube to Text is Chaotic Methods by Canadian underground hip hop producer and videomaker Reel Wolf, with their artists Kid Fade, Swann & Resin as well as a sick hook by the late Jamaican legend Louie Rankin from their third album Sinema, released in 2017.

Each of the three verses on this bad boy shows how authentic and brutal Kid Fade (of Psych Ward), Swann & Resin are when they deal with rappers and opponents not of their caliber. For example, on Kid Fade’s verse he shows that Reel Wolf did not come to play:

“Facing off against a manic whose damage gigantic with flows/
Seen you’ve landed on shore all washed up, yo, ain’t that the way you planned it?”

This line I liked because he explains how other rappers did not expect to encounter his level of success and flows and now they’re “all washed up”, no longer successful. Great wordplay!

On Swann’s verse he boasts his lyrical depravity while expressing his desire to be seen by the world:

“Tryna make my name spread fast, I’m running out of time/
No country for this old man but I’m never running out of rhymes/
So get in line, fucked up as a child with an evil smile/
Leaving cold chills down your spine fucking with your mind”

And Resin closes out this banger with brutal and ruthless bars that put fear into the hearts of those who hear them:

“You’ll pay the price if you think you’ve got a bargaining chip/
If Resin don’t have a weapon then I’ll sharpen a stick”

I like Reel Wolf’s music because the label has worked with so many underground legends and new faces from horrorcore and the underground hip-hop scene; they make many great songs based on concepts and they never disappoint; nowhere is this more true than their 2013 posse cut The Underworld which featured a whopping 13 underground microphone monsters and maniacs: Last American Rock Stars (Bizarre (of D12) & King Gordy), La Coka Nostra (Ill Bill & Slaine), Sid Wilson (of Slipknot), The Goondox (Sean Strange & PMD (of legendary hip hop group EPMD)), Reef The Lost Cauze, Swifty McVay (also of D12), Vinnie Paz, Apathy (of Army Of The Pharaohs), Celph Titled (also of AOTP) & Tech N9ne. Their recent album The Witching Hour dropped in 2024 and even though some of their artists are no longer with them (such as J Reno who has become successful on his own in the horrorcore/underground scene and is now a part of Dirtcore Music) they continue to make good beats and songs that slap harder than Will Smith or Ike Turner combined!
