Proposal for Fundraising: Empowering Neurodivergent Voices at Autisticana and Expanding the CATS Ranch Initiative

Introduction

We are excited to present an inspiring opportunity to support Autisticana, a groundbreaking neurodivergent journalism platform founded by Dr. Grimaldi, as we embark on a new phase of growth. For the past four years, Autisticana has dedicated itself to empowering neurodivergent children through journalism, producing over 450 news pieces, blogs, and 10 published books. Now, we aim to expand our efforts into new office spaces, improve our transportation, secure staff funding, and launch Phase 2, the CATS (Connect, Aspire, Thrive, and Succeed) Ranch initiative – a tranquil retreat in the heart of the Hudson Valley. In Memorial of Dr. Christine’s baby sister Catherine who was a special education teacher and passed away last year at 40 yrs old, leaving four young boys under the age of ten years old.

Phase 1: Autisticana—A Foundation of Expression and Empowerment

Autisticana has become a vibrant community where neurodivergent children come together to express themselves and develop their journalism skills. With the support of interns from various colleges, these remarkable kids have produced over 400 pieces of content ranging from advocacy articles to creative works. Our weekly newsroom meetings in Melville, New York, provide a professional environment that encourages growth, collaboration, and creativity. As well , the office provides a sense of professionalism to this team and allows them to experience what it is like to be in a corporate setting and not ostracized from their peers.

As we look to the future, we recognize the need to expand our office spaces and enhance our facilities to accommodate more participants and foster even greater creativity.

Phase 2: CATS Ranch—Healing Through Nature and Animal Interaction

We are thrilled to introduce CATS Ranch, which is currently in development and aims to provide neurodivergent youth with transformative experiences in a peaceful, natural setting. Located in the picturesque Hudson Valley, CATS Ranch will feature over ten equines and various other animals, offering children and  young adults the opportunity to engage with nature while experiencing the profound healing powers of animal interaction.

At CATS Ranch, all walks of life will be able to visit on weekends for respite, fitness, and wellness activities, focusing on mental health and emotional resilience. By working with our therapy animals, participants will cultivate responsibility and gain valuable life skills while enjoying the happiness that comes from connecting with these gentle creatures.

Funding Needs and Utilization

To successfully launch and sustain both initiatives, we are seeking funding support for the following key areas:

1. Office Expansion: Financial support will enable us to expand our office spaces, accommodating a larger number of neurodivergent youth and fostering a more collaborative environment.

2. Staff Compensation: We aim to ensure competitive wages for our dedicated staff members at both Autisticana and CATS Ranch, who provide vital mentorship and guidance to these young adults.

3. Transportation: Funding for a new travel and news van is essential to facilitate our feature expeditions for the news, as well as weekend trips for youth attending CATS Ranch, ensuring they can access these transformative experiences conveniently.

4. Development of CATS Ranch: We need financial support to establish the CATS Ranch facility, creating a safe and nurturing space where kids can connect with nature and therapy animals.

Call to Action

With your generous support, we can empower neurodivergent voices and create life-changing experiences for children and young adults  both at Autisticana and CATS Ranch. Together, we can nurture creativity, promote mental health, and inspire resilience in our youth.

Dr. Grimaldi envisions a future where all children, regardless of neurodivergence, can find joy in self-expression and connection to nature. Your contributions will be instrumental in making this vision a reality.

Conclusion

Thank you for considering our proposal. We are eager to discuss how you can help us sustain and grow both Autisticana and the CATS Ranch initiative. Together, we can inspire a generation of neurodivergent leaders and provide them with crucial tools for happiness, healing, and success.

Sincerely,

Dr. Christine Grimaldi
