From “Ho-Hum” to “Ho-Ho-WOW!”: Our Team’s Unforgettable Adventure at Hicksville’s Christmas Village!

Guess what, holiday fanatics?! Our amazing team at Autisticana had the most unbelievably joyous, grin-inducing, memory-making adventure, and we simply have to tell you all about it! We took a trip to the Christmas Village at Broadway Commons Mall in Hicksville, New York, and let me tell you, it wasn’t just a visit – it was an epic quest through a land of tinsel, cheer, and pure imagination!

For our neurodivergent e team members, this place wasn’t just good; it was magical. Every corner, every sparkle, every friendly face seemed to light up their world in a special way. It was a place where sensory wonders met festive fun, and no one felt left out of the holiday magic. So, grab a cup of cocoa, because you’re about to hear all about the coolest Christmas adventure on Long Island!

Our Merry March Through a Winter Wonderland!

From the moment we stepped in, it was like someone sprinkled a whole shaker of pixie dust. The air practically shimmered with excitement! Here’s the play-by-play of all the awesome spots we explored:

  1. The Enchanted Forest Walk: Whisper-Quiet Wonders!
First up, we tiptoed into the Enchanted Forest Walk. Imagine stepping into a silent movie of winter beauty! Giant, soft, snow-covered trees shimmered with gentle lights. It was like nature brought indoors, but even more magical! This was the perfect gentle welcome, allowing everyone to take in the pretty sights, listen to the quiet, and just soak up the calm. It was a beautiful way to ease into the festive fun, like a cozy hug for our senses.
  2. Santa’s Workshop: Elves on the Loose!
Next, we peeked into Santa’s Workshop, and wow, were those elves busy! Tiny animatronic helpers were bustling around, “making” toys and getting ready for the big night. The soft, warm glow made everything feel so cozy and authentic. Our team loved watching the repetitive, happy movements of the elves – it was like a living, breathing storybook page come to life! We saw everything from tiny rocking horses to stacks of bright, colorful (fake, but very convincing!) gifts.
  3. The Candy Cane Lane: A Sweet & Sparkly Stroll!
Then, it was a skip and a jump down Candy Cane Lane! This place was a burst of sugary-sweet colors – giant candy canes arched overhead, and huge, sparkly lollipops stood guard. It was pure eye candy (pun intended!) and a super fun, vibrant path that totally made us smile. Perfect for a quick, cheerful wander!
  4. The Reindeer Stables: Meet the Flying Crew!
Of course, we had to visit the Reindeer Stables! We saw life-sized reindeer models, looking absolutely magnificent and ready for their big flight. It was so cool to imagine Rudolf and his pals hanging out here, getting hyped for Christmas Eve. This spot was also fantastic for photos – who wouldn’t want a selfie with Santa’s trusty team?! The background music here was bright and cheerful, adding to the excitement.
  5. The Polar Express Train Ride: A Tiny Journey to the North Pole!
Choo-choo! All aboard for the Polar Express Train Ride – the miniature version, that is! This wasn’t a ride you get on, but a fantastic, detailed display of tiny trains chugging through miniature snow-covered villages, over tiny mountains, and past little forests. Our team members who love watching intricate details were absolutely mesmerized. It was like watching a whole little world come to life, constantly moving and full of hidden discoveries.
  6. The Theater Room: Story Time & Chill!
Need a little break from all the excitement? The Theater Room was a brilliant idea! This cozy spot offered a chance to sit down, relax, and enjoy some festive entertainment. Sometimes there were holiday cartoons playing, other times it was a gentle holiday story. It was perfect for those who needed a moment to decompress, or just wanted to enjoy some quiet, sensory-friendly fun without the hustle and bustle. The soft lighting and comfortable seating made it feel like a personal holiday retreat.
  7. The Snowball Throwing Room: Let the Fluffy Fun Begin!
And for a burst of pure, unadulterated fun, we hit the Snowball Throwing Room! This was a huge hit! Imagine a soft, safe, enclosed area filled with soft, plush “snowballs.” Our team members absolutely loved the chance to gently throw snowballs at targets (or at each other, with lots of happy giggles!). It was a fantastic way to engage in some active play, release a little energy, and enjoy the sensory experience of the soft snowballs without getting cold or wet. Pure, uninhibited joy!

Picture Perfect Moments & Sensory Comfort!

The Hicksville Christmas Village was a dream for snapping photos. We posed in a giant, cozy sleigh with reindeer, stepped inside a huge, glittering Christmas ornament, and even found ourselves magically transported into a life-sized snow globe! Each spot was perfectly designed for smiles and memories.

What truly made this adventure special for our autistic team members was how welcoming and understanding the whole village felt. The lighting was just right – bright enough to be festive, but soft enough not to be overwhelming. The cheerful music was always at a comfortable volume. And having all these different attractions, from quiet walks to active play, meant everyone could find their happy place.

Our visit to the Christmas Village at Broadway Commons Mall wasn’t just a day out; it was a heart-warming, giggle-filled, absolutely unforgettable experience that left us all beaming with holiday cheer. If you’re looking for a truly magical, inclusive, and fun holiday adventure, this is definitely the place to be! We’re already counting down the days until we can go back and make even more merry memories!
