As a narrative therapist , I have found major accomplishment’s through the power of redirecting clients poetry into tools for positive change in their lives.

Poetry therapy has emerged as an incredibly impactful and innovative approach to healing, especially for those who may feel overwhelmed or misunderstood by traditional therapy methods. This unique form of artistic expression provides individuals with a safe space to voice their inner struggles, allowing them to weave their pain and fears into the fabric of poetry. In this nurturing setting, a psychologist partners with clients to reshape these heartfelt creations, helping shift the narrative from one of despair to brighter psychological outcomes.

This creative process not only empowers clients but also forges a stronger bond between the therapist and the individual, as both become engaged in a collaborative journey of writing and discovery. The poems that emerge from this experience can act as beacons of hope, offering guidance and clarity that steers clients toward healing and personal development. By honoring the distinct voices of each participant, poetry therapy cultivates an atmosphere of trust, paving the way for even more effective therapeutic results.

Through this vibrant exchange, the power of words and creativity paves new paths to resilience and recovery, highlighting the profound impact that poetry can have as a therapeutic practice.

Below is an example of one of my narrative sessions.

Client :

You Trap me inside your own little hell.
How you got here is hard to tell.
You’re a big black hole, and I fall right in.
My heart beats faster, My mind begins to spin.
I try to figure out just what you are.
But my emotions you’ve strung out too far.
I feel you in my heart; others see you in my eyes.
Your presence is something I’ve come to despise.
You take from me, everything that matters.

Like glass, my world begins to shatter.

You get in my soul, run straight through my blood.

How do you cause such an emotional flood?

I’m stuck inside your invisible walls.

You’re watching, waiting for me to fall.

I will no longer give in to all of your lies.

In my heart you will not reside.

You’re a sick little game, and I don’t want to play.

It’s time for you to go away.

I refuse to stay with you in this horrible place.

So, I’m on my way to somewhere safe.

Where you decide to go, I really don’t care.

I am finished with this game of truth and dare

My Therapeutic Rewrite:

I pack up my dreams, I gather my light,
With every step forward, I’m ready to fight.
For shadows can linger, but they cannot bind,
The heart that’s determined to leave them behind.

I breathe in the freedom, the sweet, gentle air,
As the weight on my spirit begins to lay bare.
Each moment of doubt, I’ll transform into strength,
With the power of hope stretching out to great lengths.

These walls that once trapped me now tremble and break,
With every bold choice, new paths I shall make.
The colors of joy, they dance in my sight,
As I step into dawn from the deep of the night.

I’ll rewrite my story, with ink made of dreams,
Turn pain into purpose, and silent screams.
With kindness as armor, and love as my sword,
I’ll rise from the ashes, no longer ignored.

Embracing the sunlight, I cherish each step,
For the journey ahead holds the promise of depth.
In the landscape of laughter, my spirit will soar,
Boundless and free, I’m forever wanting more.

So thank you for teaching me lessons so deep,
In the heart of the struggle, true strength I’ll keep.
I’ll gather the pieces, build towers from dust,
For within me lies power, resilience, and trust.

You’re gone, but I flourish; I’m healing, I’m whole,
In the garden of courage, I nurture my soul.
The chains you once forged will rust and decay,
As I step into light, finding my way.

The client and myself , then begin to discuss both our narratives , as I ask the client about each phrase .

We then continue sessions in the future , as I ask the client to write me more poetry on specific situations.

This has been an amazing ongoing workshop that has significantly helped so many kids and adults by redirecting their narrative into a script that they really want to see happen in the near future.

For inquiries to be a participant in writing the script for your own happy and healthy future please contact me and let’s begin your journey…
