
While Australia and The Netherlands have been really good on their prospectives with a large crowd supporting Water Polo in Group A of the Women’s Preliminary Tournament in the Paris Olympics at Paris Aquatic Centre in Paris, France.


It all started in the 1st Quarter, when Simone van de Kraats of the Netherlands has won possession of the Sprint Winner but missed the action shot. Then, Alice Williams of Australia got the action shot but hit the post. After that, Simone van de Kraats of the Netherlands scored the penalty shot to give the Netherlands a 1-0 lead. It didnt last when Abby Andrews of Australia took the action shot goal as the game is level at 1-1. Then both Australia and The Netherlands has rebounded the ball back and forth with some good steals. Then Kittylynn Joustra of the Netherlands scored the Centre Shot Goal to give the Dutch team the lead back at 2-1. After that, Lola Oolhuijzen of the Netherlands scored the Action Shot Goal to resumed their lead 3-1 to wrapped up the first quarter.


The 2nd Quarter started off with Alice Williams of Australia who took the Action Shot Goal as they continued to get closer to the Dutch Team 3-2. After that both Australia and The Netherlands has rebounded the ball back and forth with some fouls and shots on goals with some excellent steals. Meanwhile, Sabrina van den Sloot took the Counter Attack Goal to help the Dutch team lead 4-2. Then Australia took the free throw and Zoe Arancini took the action goal as the team continued to catch up the Dutch Team 4-3. The results reminded the same until it was halftime.



The 3rd Quarter started, with The Netherlands take the ball as they won the sprint, but Zoe Arancini took a nice steal and momentarily Sienna Green held the ball and scored it for Australia to leveled it all 4-4. As all of the Australian players team worked together to passed the ball Alice Williams took the Extra Player Shot and Australia has taken the lead for the first time of the match as they lead 5-4. Then Simone van de Kraats of the Netherlands got the action shot blocked by the Australian Goalie. After that, Charlize Andrews of Australia got the shot on target but it was blocked by the dutch goalie. Then, Simone van de Kraats scored the penalty shot and scored a goal for the Netherlands to tie it at 5-5. Meanwhile, Charlize Andrews helped Australia give them the Goal back at 6-5. Both Australia and the Netherlands took the ball with of the efforts and Sienna Green missed the action shot which ends the 3rd Quarter.



When the 4th Quarter started, Sabrina van der Sloot got the Counter Attack Goal for the Netherlands as they tied it up again 6-6. While remaining most of the time left on the clock both Australia and The Netherlands has rebounded the ball back and forth, steals along the way with some exclusions, turnovers, with some fouls, shots on goals with some outstanding plays even with each team called for timeout to regroup the plan in order to win the game. When the Netherlands took the penalty shot, Simone van de Kraats was about to score the winning opportunity but it was saved by the Australian Goalkeeper. With less than 2 minutes left, Australia and the Netherlands are still determined to get the winning goal so they don’t have to end up go to penalties. When the clock landed at 1:03 left, Sienna Green scored the goal for Australia and it could possibly be the winning moment as they lead 7-6. More than 20 seconds later after that, Bente Rogge scored the goal for the Dutch team to stay alive at 7-7. Then Tilly Kearns of Australia got the shot on goal but it was saved by the Netherlands. Lastly, Lieke Rogge of the Netherlands was going to take the shot on target but it was blocked and the clock ended, however the referee wanted to review the play and put the clock back at 0.8 seconds left on the clock which Tilly Kearns was caught for Exclusion in 6m free throw situation. There was nothing that Dutch could win it so they both ended up went to Penalty Shootout.










During Penalty Shootouts, it started with both goalkeepers to each get a turn while defending the other opponents on the other teams. While those goalkeepers will take on the action, could it be Laura Aarts of the Netherlands or Gabriella Palm of Australia. The shootout started with Zoe Arancini of Australia and it was good. Next, it was Bente Rogge of the Netherlands and the goal was good. Third, it was Keesja Gofers of Australia and the shot was saved by Laura Aarts. After that, it was Vivian Sevenich of the Netherlands and the goal was good. After that, Sienna Hearn of Australia got the goal and it was good. Next, It was Simone van de Kraats of the Netherlands as the goal was good. After a great run of goals after goal, Sarah Buis the Goalkeeper of the Netherlands replaced Laura Aarts for the next couple of tries. When it was on, Alice Williams of Australia scored the goal and it was good. Australia had decided to switch goalies as Genevieve Longman has taken over Gabriella Palm as the substitute goalie. When the penalty shootouts was back on, Brigitte Sleeking of the Netherlands was going to get the goal but somehow it was hit by the post and the ball shifted left. Australia has their hopes alive to survive the shootouts, as Bronte Halligan takes the penalty shot and it was good. Then, Lola Moolhuijzen of the Netherlands took the penalty shot and it was good. After that, The Netherlands took back Laura Aarts as she was able to get back to being the goalie and substituted for Sarah Buis. When the action was back on to resume the Entertainment, Zoe Arancini of Australia got the goal and it was good. Next, Bente Rogge took the goal and it was good as the crowd started to rise the energy as the shoutout became a thriller. Then, Keesja Gofers of Australia and the goal was saved by Laura Aarts and the fans continue to rise the energy level. After that, Sabrina van der Sloot of the Netherlands was going to get the goal but was blocked from Genevieve Longman of Australia which she had been incredible with the block to keep the Stingers alive while it’s 5-5 in the penalty shootout. This has been an incredible experience for everyone while rising the excitement of this amazing moment in Water Polo History. Then Sienna Hearn of Australia got the goal and it was good as they take 6-5 while everyone has continued their hopes alive. Then Simone van de Kraats scored for The Netherlands and it was good with 6-6 as everyone at the aquatic center was excited for the thrilling experience. After that, Alice Williams of Australia got the goal and it was good 7-6, but the thrill has never stopped the momentum of scoring goals in penalty shootout. Then Brigitte Sleeking of the Netherlands scored the goal and it was good 7-7, while the moment never stop with all of the action of water polo. Meanwhile, Sarah Buis the goalkeeper replaced Laura Aarts to take over the next round of the shootout. The results of 7-7 is like an exciting opportunity with the goals but its also scary like putting your nerves to only allow one winner but it would heartbreaking for the team to not get the win the shootout. When Bronte Halligan got the goal as Australia takes the 8-7 lead. It was great as the fans of the Stingers or fans of Water Polo has enjoyed the moment of goals after goals. When Lola Moolhuijzen was about to get the to tied it for 8 and it was saved by Genevieve Longman which Australia has won the penalty shootout 7-8 while it was 7-7 in Regulation Time which the results finish with the Australian Stingers won the total of 15-14.





















The longest penalty shootout in the history of women’s water polo concluded in victory by Australia. The Stingers have created history in Australia’s women’s sports history since the Matilda’s famous penalty shootout victory over France in the quarterfinals of the host country’s Women’s World Cup. Australia 15, Netherlands 14 (Australia 8, Netherlands 7 in PSO) was the final score of the match. In a thrilling penalty shootout lasting 20 shots, Australian goalkeeper Gabriella Palm saved the Netherlands’ 10th and final shot, giving her team a 15-14 victory in the Group A Match of the Women’s Preliminary Round in the Water Polo Division. The crowd was overjoyed about their victory for Australia.
