Travel Bloggers : Fire Island Light House
As we strolled along the Boardwalk, we encountered a fascinating array of plants before making our way towards the lighthouse. Our next stop was the Lighthouse Museum, where we delved into the intricate workings and daily operations of this beacon during a full day cycle. Pano and I were captivated as we learned about the history and functionality of the Fire Island Lighthouse, spanning from its origins in 1789 to the present day. Our exploration revealed that the lighthouse was the brainchild of Augustin-Jean Fresnel, shedding light on its rich past.
A visit to the gift shop beckoned, offering an array of souvenirs and locally made items, some bearing the distinctive Fire Island insignia. Ascending the Lighthouse tower proved to be a rewarding feat despite the challenging climb, granting us unparalleled vistas of the Atlantic Ocean and the stunning panorama stretching from Long Island to New York City. The sight of cyclists pedaling along the path and cars traversing the Robert Moses Causeway underscored the vitality of the surroundings, while the crystalline blue ocean unveiled the picturesque villages of Fire Island, accented by the sight of mini school buses navigating the dirt roads.
With our cameras in tow, Pano and I captured the most enchanting views of the lighthouse before immersing ourselves in the Museum’s engaging exhibits, which shed light on the adventurous lives of sailors and maritime workers. From voyages on the high seas to the intricate art of rope maintenance, we gained a newfound respect for these seafaring professions. The iconic US Live Saving Service Set depicted a dramatic scene of shipwreck rescue amidst turbulent waters and winds.
To conclude our day of discovery, Pano and I sauntered down to the Beach, dipping our toes into the chilly waters. Despite the initial chill, we acclimated to the refreshing sea, marveling at the unobstructed views of the ocean, a rare sight on Long Island. It was a moment of tranquility and beauty that etched itself into our memories, a perfect conclusion to our enriching expedition.
