The How to Draw logo appears over a background of various drawing and art supplies. An animator narrates throughout the short.
A familiar arm places a red square between “How” and “to” in the logo. A sword carves the word “NOT” into the red square.
The animator picks up a pencil and begins drawing Gramma Alice, starting with her eyes, face, and small but mighty body, adding her glasses. Gramma Alice suddenly appears confused and suspicious, mistaking the setting for a government spy operation. She accuses the animator of holding her hostage.

The animator tries to explain that they are just drawing her, showing storyboards, but Gramma Alice mistakes them for surveillance photos and attacks. She demands her “emotional support sword” to escape, which the animator reluctantly draws. She grabs the sword and continues her rampage, mistaking the animator’s lunch for poisoned food and a colleague for a fellow prisoner.

Gramma Alice spots the animator’s schedule, assuming it’s a torture plan, and the animator jokingly agrees it’s their deadlines. She attempts a daring escape by leaping behind the desk, despite warnings that she’ll be stuck forever. She makes it to the other side, laughing triumphantly.

From her new vantage point, Gramma Alice looks down at the animator, realizing they’re just an animator, albeit a bit of a slob. The short concludes with the title card, “This has been How NOT to Draw Gramma Alice.”
