The episode opens with a flock of birds flying in the sky, forming the title “Mulligan’d” before the camera pans down to the Greens’ country house. Inside, Cricket and Tilly are engaged in an intense staring contest, grunting with effort to avoid blinking. Cricket suddenly winks, prompting Tilly to gasp and declare victory: “You blinked! I win!” Cricket protests, “No, I winked! A wink ain’t a blink, Tilly!” Their game is interrupted by Nancy’s voice from the kitchen: “Are you serious?!” Cricket and Tilly enter the kitchen where Nancy is stressed, ending a phone call. She explains that her distributor, the creamed corn factory, has gone out of business because “nobody wants to eat the stuff anymore.” Tilly enthusiastically holds up a spoon and fork, saying, “Delicious, go on.” Nancy reveals she planted an excessive amount of corn this season. She and Cricket stick their heads out the window to view the vast fields stretching far across the farm. Cricket exclaims off-screen, “I’ve never seen a bounty so bountiful!” Back inside, Cricket asks, “What are we gonna do?” Nancy closes the window and sighs worriedly, “I don’t know. But it’s gonna cost the farm big.”

Nick Mulligan (Nancy’s ex-husband and a former con artist) bursts in dramatically, shouting “Attenzione!” He grabs a Splish soda from the fridge and casually suggests starting a U-Pick operation: customers pay to pick their own corn directly from the fields. Nancy is initially surprised that Nick has a seemingly good idea but quickly grows suspicious, recalling his history of shady schemes. She insists the operation must be “completely above-board.” Nick assures her he’s changed and has no ulterior motives. With Cricket and Tilly’s encouragement, they decide to proceed. Nancy, skeptical due to his shady past, recalls their history. A flashback shows young Nancy scamming an elderly woman at a bus stop with a fake $20 bill for change, while young Nick draws poorly made counterfeit bills in an alley, praising Nancy’s success. Back in the present, Nick insists he’s reformed, pitching the U-Pick as a legitimate business. Nancy, cautious but intrigued, agrees to the plan but demands it be entirely above board. She assigns Cricket and Tilly to create promotional posters for the highway to advertise the U-Pick event.

At the farm, a large U-Pick sign decorated with corn symbols marks the event. Nancy, Cricket, and Tilly greet arriving customers, handing out baskets. A family with a child playing a handheld game expects additional activities. When Nancy clarifies payment is only for picked corn, they’re unimpressed and start to leave. Nick intervenes, announcing free attractions: a corn maze, petting zoo, and tractor rides. He tosses tractor keys to the child, rekindling their interest. The family heads off, excited, but Nancy grows suspicious of Nick’s motives, believing he’s planning a scam. Nick explained Nancy that it’s too intense to pick more as Nancy was unsure of his wisdom of believing that he did change. In the barn’s petting zoo, customers enjoy free interactions with animals like cows, goats and pigs. Nancy checks with a family, confirming Nick isn’t charging for entry. In the cornfield, Cricket demonstrates a corn-picking technique to customers, while Nick distributes free baskets. Nancy inspects customers’ pockets for stolen valuables, finding nothing. She mistakes rustling in the corn maze for Nick, but discovers two teens kissing, whom she leaves alone, still convinced Nick is up to something. At a family photo station outside the petting zoo, Nick takes free pictures for a family. Nancy accuses him of charging for photos or siphoning money digitally, but both the family and Nick deny any fees. Nancy admits that Nick has a track record to prove that he is a convicted felon. Nick was Frustrated by her distrust as he tried to admit that he did changed. Nick briefly walks away, intending to relax indoor back to the House to watch TV. Nancy felt bad and reconsiders, acknowledging his contributions, to ask him by manage the weighing station. Nick agrees and heads to assist customers.

A montage showcases the U-Pick’s success: Cricket catches corn cobs in a basket worn as a helmet, children pet animals in the barn (with one calf humorously “petting” a child), and Nancy gives the child from earlier a thrilling tractor ride. The child discards his game, eager to pick corn. Nancy observes a long line of customers, noting the event’s popularity due to Nick’s added attractions. A long line of customers snakes around the house, and Nancy, momentarily convinced of Nick’s honesty, feels a flicker of pride until a familiar gesture from Nick, a thumbs-up, stirs memories of their past scams, reigniting her suspicion. Nancy, Cricket, and Tilly spy on Nick at the weight station, where he secretly presses his thumb on the scale to inflate corn weights, overcharging customers. Furious at being deceived, Nancy feels manipulated, recalling their past scams. She rallies the kids to outsmart him, planning a counter-scam to return the money to customers and protect the farm’s reputation.

At the weight station, Nick counts money, believing he’s fooled Nancy. Cricket, in a comical disguise with a cardboard mustache and suit, presents a single corn ear and a fake $1,000 bill, requesting change. Nick sees through the ruse and removes Cricket’s mustache, realizing Nancy knows about his scam. He grabs the cash box to flee, unaware that Tilly has swapped it with an empty one containing a note from Nancy. Then, Nancy spots Nick with the cash box and pursues him as he enters the corn maze, laughing confidently in a devious tone. She searches the maze, determined to catch him. Nick throws a corn cob to distract her and hides briefly. He encounters the kissing teens again, leaving them be, but hits a dead end. As Nancy closes in, Nick crashes through the corn stalks, leaving a silhouette, and escapes toward the woods. In the woods, Nick digs a hole to bury the cash box, anticipating his success. Opening it, he finds only Nancy’s note, realizing he’s been outwitted, and lets out a dramatic scream as the crows scatter off to the sky. Nancy walked out of the corn maze with a smirk as she walked away to get revenged back at Nick.

Back at the weight station, Cricket and Tilly refund overcharged customers, apologizing for the scale issue. A customer appreciates their honesty, and Nancy watches, pleased with the outcome. Nick, disheveled and covered in dirt and twigs, confronts Nancy about her plan. She explains how Cricket’s distraction allowed Tilly to swap the cash boxes, and her chase prevented Nick from interfering with refunds. Cricket and Tilly just finished with the refunds after the customers realized that they’re being overcharged with the corn weighing station. Impressed, Nick embraces Nancy, acknowledging her cleverness. They humorously return each other’s pickpocketed wallets, revealing mutual trickery. It was moment like Father like Daughter as it wrapped up the episode.

The lesson of the Big City Greens episode “Mulligan’d” centers on the themes of trust, vigilance, and the possibility of redemption, encapsulated by the “mulligan” concept—a second chance. Specifically, the episode teaches that while it’s important to give others the opportunity to prove they’ve changed, one should remain cautious and trust their instincts when past behavior suggests deceit. Nancy Green learns to balance hope for her father Nick Mulligan’s reform with the need to protect her family and business from his scams. When Nick’s promise of an honest U-Pick operation proves false, as he overcharges customers by rigging the scale, Nancy’s skepticism—rooted in their history of scams—proves justified. By outsmarting him with a counter-scam to refund customers, she upholds integrity while still allowing room for reconciliation, as seen in their playful wallet exchange at the end. The lesson emphasizes that second chances are valuable but should be tempered with discernment to avoid being misled, fostering growth through family bonds and accountability.
