Traffic to the East End of Long Island can be a pain when you commute from Central Suffolk and the other side of the Long Island. Some Commuters preferred to drive to get to the Hamptons by 5:00 because the line would be a zoo and the traffic would stretch for miles from East Quogue to Hampton Bays.

Which paths the commuters take to the Hamptons before Sunrise Hwy into County Road 39 or Montauk Hwy into County Road 80. Most of the commuters either take Flanders Road Route 24 out of Riverhead, while others take County Road 111 from the Long Island Expressway to Sunrise Hwy. Some commuters that are willing to drive far would either take Route 25A into Route 25 to the roundabout pass the Riverhead Courthouse and go through the Rounabout on Flanders Road or take Route 25 to make a left Cross River Drive. Others would continue to get on Quogue Riverhead Road to avoid heavy traffic on Route 24 but except traffic would continue to be heavy once you get on Sunrise Hwy. There’s an alternative way to the Hamptons like staying on Quogue Riverhead Road into Lewis Rd and then turn left into Old Country Road and lastly take Montauk Hwy until you get to Hampton Bays.

Traffic on While some of the commuters who would drive all the way from Western Suffolk County as they drive nice and early or just drive longer to get better pay. Once the clock hits 5:00, the eastbound commuters started to build more cars east of Patchogue which the major change of Sunrise Hwy was the William Floyd Parkway from Mastic-Shriley, it was the main direction that the started the westbound commuters and the beinging of eastbound commuters going to the Hamptons. While driving through Center Moriches, the westbound was more quieter than eastbound commuters because it was all of the population that would risk the long drive Nassau County and the path to New York City. Has more side roads were passed through, more eastbound commuters hopped on Sunrise Hwy which another huge load from the help of County Road 111, by the fact that the other half of the East End Commuters came from the Long Island Expressway. Once everyone got the path by the busiest roadways of Riverhead and Westhampton, traffic has expanded more vehicles has been taking Sunrise Hwy. In the earliest reason how traffic all started was the time they reached to the speed limit where it said End Expressway Section from 55mph to 35mph where the point to reduced speed in Hampton Bays. It wasn’t always the reason how the heavy traffic merged the early birds at the same time by 5:30AM, traffic was merged from Route 24 getting hopped on Sunrise Hwy to cause slowdowns over no reason, which that was caused to expanded the longer the line all the way to East Quogue. Alternative route to the Hamptons like Montauk Hwy

The same issue on Montauk Hwy that causes the long line of delays

What about the path like the Capitan Daniel Roe Highway County Road 111 which brings most of the commuters off the Long Island Expressway to take the path to Sunrise Hwy.

North Fork Traffic in the Morning is mostly farmers, landscapers and other essential on the countryside which luckily the traffic is not a major issue compared to the South Fork. The North Fork has County Road 48 and Route 25. The path on County Road 48 is mostly driving through the countryside while the 2 lane highway can drive at 55 Mph while the one lane direction has a slower speed limit depending on the area. While Route 25 is based on a one lane road driving through the houses, main streets of the North Fork and small community plazas in the area. For some reason, the North Fork doesn’t actually start rush hour earlier than the South Fork. The North Fork usually starts to build up more commuters after 6AM which is good because theres not much volume on traffic other than the long line for one large group of commuters. It could be that larger vehicles are more likely to cause a minor backup because they want to follow the speed limit for the sign before increase the speed or added a 2nd lane on County Road 48. Some Commuters take Cross River Drive and Northville Tpke.

In the City of Riverhead is hub city of the East End of Long Island and it has essential businesses like government offices, the largest shopping plazas and service facilities for the residents on the eastern side of Suffolk County. The main path in the city of Riverhead is Old Country Rd, Route 25 and Route 24 in the intersection of the Suffolk County Courthouse Buildings. Some junctions of the roundabout does often have delays depending the specific time of day. The Riverhead Train Station is also known as the Taxi Depot and the East End Bus Line that runs by the Suffolk County Transit System for there city buses.

Traffic on the North Fork Commuting to the Hamptons which some commuters who are more likely to risk longer commute to work would start with Route 25 or Route 25A on the Eastern Side of Central Suffolk. On Route 25A, the commuters has expanded eastbound traffic east of Rocky Point by N Country Rd and go all together to pass through Shoreham and Wading River. On Route 25, the commuters have expanded eastbound traffic east of Coram to Middle Island with some stop and go traffic due to some intersections with traffic lights. After that, the trip continues on to Ridge pass through the William Floyd Parkway. Both Highways merged on the intersection in Calverton which is officialy the New York Route 25 all the way to Rvierhead.

This is the junction for some commuters to turn left by going to Sound Ave to the North Fork

Most of them would get off south to pass the Peonic River and hop on Route 24 while others take off the Long Island Expressway and risk that path the entire way of Route 24 just as bad as Sunrise Hwy once you drive east of Cross River Drive. The long line stretches all the way until the traffic light on Longneck Blvd. The traffic clears up to the moment where they add a 2nd lane until it merges back to one lane near Red Creek Rd. The path would be clear until by the area of Old Riverhead Road and Sunrise Hwy.

What about commuting to the Hamptons if you took the ferry to Shelter Island then to the Sag Harbor. The good news is that the ferry terminal is every 10 to 15 minutes for each of those boats to cross the other side of the island which it starts after 5:30AM.

What about the Long Island Railroad South Fork Commuter Connection Train from Speonk to the East End of Long Island. Most East End Commuters who takes the train that has a range of 25 to 40 people at each train station who would take the Train to the East End to avoid waiting in traffic for an hour to get to work. Hopefully they will expand another train to commute east or west every hour instead of waiting for the next train for some commuter’s because mostly like rush hour doesn’t even finish until from the range of 9AM to 10AM.

How is the East End can only do 2 trains east and west one for the early morning commute and the later commute of the morning rush. If this amount of population continues to increase riding the train instead of waiting in a long line of traffic that would last for miles.

What the future holds to make it easier for essentials for the weekday commute?

The Significant traffic changes will occur on Long Island’s east end near the Twin Forks in the summer of 2024, and further developments will follow in the upcoming  years to come.
