Leeds United and Southampton have been among the strongest teams in the EFL Championship despite being demoted from the Premier League last season. They both advanced to the EFL Championship Playoffs and then off to the Wembley Stadium Final.

The match started off with Leeds taking most of the possession which Southampton was able to find a way to move up. Archie Gray was able to It run to the net but kicked a little too much to the right at the 3rd minute. At the 13th minute, Smallbone of Southampton took the free kick but Meslier the Goalkeeper of Leeds was able to stop the ball from getting into the net. At the 24th minute, it was a smart pass from Will Smallbone slid Armstrong into the box, and he drilled a low shot past Illan Meslier which Southampton Saints got the goal to lead 1-0. This was Armstorng’s fourth goal in three against Leeds this season and it was there 100th goal of the season. At the 38th minute, Bernarek of Southampton got a yellow card for a foul on Leeds United. At the 45th minute, Smallbone took the free kick to Armstrong which he had a great shot on goal but the Leeds defenders took the ball after Meslier saved the ball. While Leeds ran the ball to the halfway line, Fraser of Southampton fouled Leeds and automatically took the yellow card. Russell Martin the coach of Southampton FC was pleased about the performance and hoping to take themselves back to the Premier League.

During the 2nd Half Leeds United were determined to get the goal to level it up, Leeds United were about to get the goal from Georginio Rutter but was fouled by Taylor Harwood-Bellies of Southampton outside the box at the 51st minute. At the 57th Wilfried Gnonto of Leeds was being pushed by Downes of Southampton which Crysencio Summerville took the free kick but kicked it too high. At the 68th Southampton was about to get the 2nd goal but missed the top post. Southampton was able to do it again at the 72th minute which Meslier was able to saved it from getting into the net. Daniel Farke the coach of Leeds United has rang the changes throughout the second half to try and drag his side back into it, and one of his substitutes, Dan James. At the 84th minute, Dan James came so close to the equaliser as he crashed a shot onto the underside of the crossbar before it bounced clear as it bounced off the post. Right afterwards, Downes of Southampton got a yellow card for a foul. 30 seconds later, Georginio of Leeds got the ball but was blocked by Alex McCarthy. When the match went on for stoppage time, Dan James of Leeds was about to get the tying goal but didn’t have enough effort from the save of McCarthy. When the game ended, there would be no equaliser as Saints marched back to the Premier League, Adam Armstrong raised his jersey and it was the first time that Southampton had made it to the Championship Playoff Finals and won the tournament. Leeds were condemned to a sixth defeat in six play-off attempts. The Saints win ‘football’s richest game’ at Wembley and earn immediate promotion back to the Premier League. The Southampton Saints has won the match 1-0 against Leeds United. Southampton won promotion back to the Premier League after the moment of the Championship playoff final at Wembley Stadium in London, earning an immediate return to England’s top tier following relegation in 2023. Often described as the “richest match in football,” promotion means Southmapton are set to receive a windfall of at least £140 million ($178m), according to analysis from Deloitte’s Sports Business Group.

Southampton has lifted the trophy and celebrated their victory back to Top Division at the Premier League while Leeds United would stay in the EFL Championship has 2nd Division of English Football. Southampton has been back at the Premier League since 2012 and stayed in the league for 11 seasons which it was incredible since they’ve been relegated to the Championship League last season. The Saints have had an excellent season on their first year back at the EFL Championship which experienced the whole playoffs.
