The State of Origin was a thing for the Major AustraliaRugby Tournamnet which the Women’s had been doing the current Instituted since 2018, as they competed in the Women’s Interstate Challenge from 1999 to 2017. After the 2018, Tournament fan attendance has increased since then other than the Pandemic with social distancing for the amount of fans. During the 2024 Season, they hit an all new record high attendance on fans watching the women play in action with over 25,000 fans to celebrate the event.

The match has been held at NewCastle International Sports Centre which is also known as the McDonald Jones Stadium on NewCastle, New South Wales. The weather was pouring rain and the field was slippery at moments of the match. While this year this 3 matches for the first time in Women’s State of Origin History which thanks to the expansion of fans watching the sport they play.

The Game started off with Romy Teitzel of the Maroons was tackled by Caitlan Johnston of the Blues. Then the Blues did a lot of work with the passing until Jamie Chapman of the Blues was about to get the try, but was blocked by the Maroons defense. Keely Davis who jumped into the dummy half and went down a low scamper over a four pointer while Rachel Pearson converted for the 6-0 lead into halftime. The Maroons did all of their work to get a try or get the dummy half which nothing has worked. There was one moment when the Blues was about to get a try but the Maroons Defense has held a firmed penalty for slowing the ruck which allowed them out at their own end.

At the 51st minute, the Maroons mistakenly give the ball to the Blues, which they hanged on for the great defense side for themselves. In the meantime, the Maroons has tried their luck and their skipper Ali Brigginshaw who slide for the try after a great pass from Shenae Ciesiolka into Queensland’s Challenge. When Lauren Brown tried to get the conversion but the ball the was wide to leave the score of 6-4 with 15 minutes left to play. At the 58th minute, Julia Robertson of the Maroons ran the ball from the starting line until Jessica Sergio’s of the Blues took the ball from her kept it to the ground. After that, New South Wales had a great plan to gain the lead by getting a great pass from, Olivia Kernick to Corban Baxter to Tiana Penitani and give a massive boost to get the Blues a try and the fans roared up the energy. The Blues took the 10-4 lead with 10 minutes remaining on the clock.

When the Maroons had 2 tackles left remained, Lauren Brown started the ball and give to Tarryn Aiken and then ran the ball with 3 meters as she capitalized with a dazzling solo try and give the Maroons a celebration for the second try of the tournament which Lauren Brown converted the ball to the goal which they 10-10 at the moment. With 2 minutes left and the Maroons had their 5th and last tackle to play the ball as Tamika Upton gives Lauren Brown the ball and took the sacrifice field goal. It gives the Maroons celebration on the field as they get themselves the lead up front by one. The Blues had one more chance to redeem themselves with the last 20 seconds left but couldn’t capitalize the halfway point of the field.

The Queensland Maroons has won the 2nd round of the State of Origin Tournament of 2024 with the final results of Maroons 11-10 against the NSW Blues. The sport has been on the rise of fans watching the women’s sports teams since the late 2010s and right after the pandemic which it became a new phenomenon for the sport to become a major part in Women’s History in Sports. They also broke the record of attendance has it reached to 25,782 with an almost sold out crowd which the promotion of advertising fans to get into women’s sports has been the biggest increase in Australia since the World Cup was hosted in Australia and New Zealand last summer. The sport will continue to expand fans as the years go by.
