When the 1st Quarter started, it started when Juliette Dhalluin hit the post for France but a great save from the Italian Goalkeeper. Then Domitilla Picozzi scored the extra player shot goal for Italy to tie the game at 1-1. After that, Italy had been the scoring machine for the remainder of the 1st Quarter, which there was some great plays from Dafne Bettini for the action shot 2-1 and Roberta Bianconi got the action goal to gain the lead 3-1. After that, Roberta Bianconi was about to another goal but it was saved by the French Goalkeeper to wrap up the 1st Quarter.


When the 2nd Quarter started, Juliette Dhalluin of France and scored the counterattack goal over 40 seconds after the start of the 2nd Quarter while still down by one 3-2. Then Giuditta Galardi of Italy scored the centre Shot goal 4-2. After that, Orsolya Hertzka of France got the action goal to get closer to Italy 4-3 after a quick mistake with the unforced error. After that, Juliette Dhalluin scored the goal for France to tie up the game 4-4. Then, Chiara Tabani of Italy scored the extra player shot goal to regain the lead 5-4. After that, Claudia Marletta of Italy scored the penalty shot to continue their lead at 6-4. While Juliette Dhalluin was going to score a hat trick for France, it was blocked while getting the 6m direct shot in free throw situation which wrapped up the first half of the match.





As soon as the 3rd Quarter started, both France and Italy had some great Rebounds and turnovers throughout most of first half during the 3rd Quarter. While it was 3 minutes left of the 3rd Quarter, Lara Andres scored the extra player shot goal for France at 6-5. Then Claudia Marletta of Italy was going to get a goal but the extra player shot was blocked by the French Goalkeeper. After that, Louise Guillet took the action goal to help France tied the game 6-6. In the meantime, Sofia Giustini took the action shot goal to take Italy back at the lead with 7-6. Lastly, Ema Vernoux took the extra player shot but missed the scoring opportunity which concluded the 3rd Quarter.






During the 4th and last Quarter of the match, Lara Andres took the action shot goal to help France level the game at 7-7. Then Italy was caught for foul in the goal zone for France which they had the opportunity to get the winning goal in the last final minutes of the match. So it was up to Juliette Dhalluin and scored the penalty shot and got the hat trick to get back in the lead 8-7. After that, Ema Vernoux got the extra player shot goal for France to extend their lead 9-7 with 3:19 minutes left of the final quarter. The whole crowd of their supporters and their teammates with the coaches that are very pleased about the win in front of their home country as the host nation. Lastly, Roberta Bianconi of Italy took the action shot for the possible comeback goal while trailing down by one with the result of 9-8. It wasn’t enough for Italy to get closer to tie the game when they tried another shot on target which France was able to held on to the ball for the last full minute. Juliette Dhalluin of France kept the ball in the last 19 seconds until the very last second, when the buzzer sounded to terminate the match. This was the first time in team history that France had won a water polo match in the Summer Olympics Tournament, even though they were the host nation.















The French team is competing in the Olympic women’s water polo competition for the first time, and earned a berth into this year’s Games as the host country.
