The first quarter has been defined by both sides neutralizing one another’s attacks.Pirmin Blaak, the Kookaburras’ goalkeeper, denied Blake Glovers’ effort to put the team up from a penalty corner.

In the second quarter, the Dutch out the ante and produced the better opportunities. With two penalty corner opportunities, captain Thierry Brinkman almost put them ahead, but the Australian defense held firm.

The Netherlands’ pressure eventually paved the way for a well-deserved advantage early in the third quarter. Duco Telgenkamp’s drag flick from a penalty corner took a slight deflection before passing through keeper Andrew Charter to give the Netherlands a 1-0 lead as the deadlock was broken.

As the Dutch began to commit fewer men forward in an attempt to hold onto their lead, the Kookaburras began to see more of the ball. But the Netherlands kept creating some great counter-attacking possibilities, and in the last ten minutes, they doubled their lead. Thanks to a fantastic solo run into the D by Thijs van Dam, who managed to beat the goalkeeper with his shot despite losing his footing. The Netherlands were victorious after the goal and easily saw out the remaining 

After finishing with a 2-0 victory, the Netherlands Men’s Hockey Team will play against Spain on Tuesday at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. After winning Silver at the Tokyo Olympics, Australia conceded their journey with a fantastic performance in the Preliminary Group Tournament.
