Spin the Spectrum is a nonprofit organization based in Dallas-Fort Worth, dedicated to empowering autistic and neurodivergent individuals through inclusive DJ and music production programs. Founded in 2022 by Jay Clipp, an internationally acclaimed DJ educator, and Courtney Willis, a certified speech-language pathologist, the program focuses on neurodiversity-affirming education that meets students where they are, regardless of age or ability.

Imagine stepping into a vibrant classroom where the beat drops and creativity flows freely. In Spin the Spectrum’s DJ classes, students use professional tools like Pioneer controllers and Serato software to learn skills such as beatmatching, cueing, and smooth transitions all at their own pace. These sessions are student-led, with a low teacher-to-student ratio to ensure personalized support. For those drawn to creating original sounds, the music production classes dive into beat-making, sampling, and track building using gear like the MPC Live II, guided by multi-Grammy winner JahBorn. The emphasis is on self-expression, sensory accommodations, and building real-world skills that can lead to employment, like performing at events or renting equipment through the program’s services.

On The Kelly Clarkson Show episode aired October 6, 2025, the spotlight shone on this innovative program, showcasing its impact on neurodivergent kids and adults. Kelly highlighted founders Jay and Courtney, along with participant Jay, demonstrating how the classes foster inclusion and yield “amazing results” in confidence and creativity. The segment captured the joy of neurodivergent students mixing tracks, emphasizing that music is a universal language that bridges differences.

Beyond classes, Spin the Spectrum hosts workshops across DFW and beyond, collaborating with schools and communities to promote advocacy and de-pathologize autism through research partnerships. It’s not just about learning to DJ, it’s about creating opportunities for paid gigs, equity, and a sense of belonging in society. As one student might say while dropping a beat: This is where differences spin into harmony.
